Krampus is a mythical figure with ancient folklore roots that has only recently re-appeared in contemporary culture.  In the European Alpine traditions, Krampus is the shadow side of St Nicholas. Where the latter brings gifts to all good little boys and girls, Krampus brings the bad stuff we’d all like to avoid! In this 6x6 inch hand-glazed tile, Motawi depicts Krampus in his most common form: A cloven-footed, boney, horned devil with a long tongue, carrying a basket of birch rods used for punishment — and to carry away those exceptionally bad children we certainly don’t want to be!
