Reflection Comparison

Conservation Clear® (left) and Museum Glass® (right).

Museum Glass® and Optium Museum Acrylic®

Truly extraordinary glazing options

Both products provide the same UV blocking protection of Conservation Clear glass, recommended for all preservation framing, by blocking 99% of the ultraviolet rays in the 300-380 nm range (see illustrations above and below).

In addition, Museum Glass and Optium Museum Acrylic have a very special anti-reflective coating far superior to a typical, frosted, non-glare glass. This special coating is applied in extremely thin layers to break up the incoming light rays so they don't bounce back off the glass or acrylic, producing a glare.

See the comparison at left. Note how the Conservation Clear glass shows room refllections on its surface as well as an obvious reflection on the table and strip of mat board beneith it. This is not apparent on the Museum Glass side.

Because the light rays don't bounce off, the picture is actually better illuminated than with clear glass. Clear glass transmits 91% of light to the artwork, while Museum Glass and Optium Museum Acrylic transmit more than 97% of light to the artwork while filtering out the harmful UV wavelengths. This improves both color intensity and clarity.

Optium Museum Acrylic®
Optium Museum Acrylic Chart

Tru-Vue Optium Museum Acrylic is the ultimate glazing product. It is the best choice for oversized art, pastels, & original valuable artwork needing superior glare-free clarity and UV protection

Optium Museum Acrylic® Meets Rigorous Standards. Durable and strong, Optium is produced using a patented Tru Vue technology. A magnetron-sputtered anti-reflective, anti-static coating is bonded to an abrasion resistant, UV filtering acrylic sheet at an atomic level. This ensures long-lasting protection that doesn't oxidize and degrade over time.

Both Museum Glass and Optium Museum Acrylic offer similar protective and visual advantages. Optium Museum Acrylic has the following properties to provide a secure and protective environment:

• Extraordinary Scratch Resistance
• Anti Static
• Shatter Resistant
• Lightweight
• Excellent clarity
• Antireflective
• 99% UV filtration

Used by 75% of Museums Worldwide

Come in and take the scratch test!
Sand the surface of Optimum Museum Acrylic with steel wool, and see no scratches at all!

Below: Three Cubist paintings installed in the Kröller-Müller Museum,
Hoge Veluwe National Park, Otterlo, Netherlands.

The first two paintings hang on the same wall. The Jan Gris (below left) is in an acrylic box.
The Gino Severini (below right) is protected with Optium Museum Acrylic®. Where the first painting
reflects the gallery and wall of glass opposite the installation, the second does not.
The difference is clearly visible!

Above, left (obscured by reflections) "Guitar on a Table," 1915, by Jan Gris. Above, right, clearly visible through Optium Museum Acrylic®, Gino Severini's "Still Life with Guitar," 1919.

Below, "Geometrical Still Life I," 1919, by Georges Valmier.
Optium Museum Acrylic® allows the viwer to see the art, not reflections of the gallery.

We also stock:

Tru-Vue Conservation Clear Glass (U.V. Glass) filters 99% of damaging ultraviolet light. This is the glass you see on most of the art in our gallery and is our number one selling glass.

Tru Vue Conservation Reflection Control Glass (Non-glare U.V. Glass) has the same U.V. filtering quality as clear glass, but has an etched surface to reduce glare. This surface softens the image with a resulting slight loss in clarity and color intensity.

Tru-Vue Conservation Clear Acrylite (U.V. Acrylic) filters 99% of damaging ultraviolet light and provides an extremely clear view of the image without the slight greenish tint that is inherent in regular glass. Like other acrylic products, it is ideal for shipping and installing oversize pieces of art.

Conservation Reflection Control Acrylite (Non-Glare U.V. Acrylic) filters 98% of ultraviolet light and has an etched surface that is slightly less distorting than its glass equivalent. We use this product in many corporate installations where large windows produce glare, and we need an affordable acrylic product to reduce reflection.

Tru-Vue AR Conservation Clear Acrylite (Abrasion Resistant U.V. Acrylic) is similar to U.V. Acrylic with the addition of a scratch resistant surface. This product is ideal for office installations where janitorial services may be cleaning the framed artwork.

Tru-Vue Premium Clear Glass is a quality clear picture framing glass for budget projects that do not require U.V. protection.

Tru-Vue Premium Clear Acrylite (Clear Acrylic) is a general purpose, defect-free acrylic for picture framing without UV protection.

UltraVue® glass offers the same superior anti-reflective properties you've come to expect from Tru Vue, on a water white substrate. This high-quality, anti-reflective glass product provides 65% UV protection and is optically coated to create a nearly invisible finish. Similar to its other anti-reflective products, Tru Vue uses its proprietary coating process using Magnetron Sputtering technology, which deposits precisely controlled layers of highly energized metal oxides onto a 2mm, water white substrate, to produce the UltraVue product.
