Purim In Venice
Framed $300 |
Purin in Venice is one of the "Venezia" series of paintings by Michal Meron celebrating Jewish holidays in her beloved city. Although the true origin of Venice's Jewish community remains unclear, it is possible to verifythat the first Jewish settlement dates back to the late 14th century. Until the early 16th century, the Jewish presence in Venice was not continuous, and even after the institution of the Ghetto in 1516 the community was not granted a permanent settlement. It is interesting to point out that the most ancient part of the Ghetto was the 'New' one, since it was instituted in the new metal foundry area, while later the old metal foundry area was added to the first part of the Ghetto. The feeling of secure permanence made it possible for the Ashkenazi community to build the German Synagogue, the most ancient in the Ghetto of Venice in 1528. The prints in the Venezia series are all limited edition giclée's with gold appliqué by the artist. Size 13x13 inches unframed and 17x17 inches framed. The frame is a beautiful Larson-Juhl Couleurs Provence series in a distressed plum with a water gilded gold lip. |
